Leading Edge Radius Effects on VAWT Performance

Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate effect of blade geometry vertical axis wind turbine performance. Most the evaluations focused on airfoil series and parameters such as thickness camber airfoil. Few examined other In present study, geometric change in leading-edge radius (LER) a performance has numerically studied. Hence, modified NACA 0021 profiles were created using method (CST). Then, flow behavior around Darrieus was simulated under influence reduction set-up coefficients at constant speed 9 m/s tip ratio 1.5 3.5 computational fluid dynamics. Additionally, effects parameter (leading-edge radius) aerodynamic coefficients, including power torque, investigated. The results indicated that affected near wake turbine, optimization controls dynamic stall reduces formation vortex. Finally, LER revealed 20% increased by more than 50%. This reinforces self-starting capability turbine.
